Samick Extreme failure

You know that feeling you get from something when it gives its absolute best, just before it dies? Well yesterday I was practising at the field at 80 yards, and EVERYTHING was going in the centre. I was scoring 90-92 dozens, the arrows were flying beautifully, and everything was right with the world. Indeed, I was so looking forward to tomorrow's Albion at Burleigh that I was expecting to get a decent placing.

Until one shot left the bow with a strange thud. . . the arrow hit the black at 6 o’clock and I checked the bow over. Nothing appeared loose, clicker was fine (I’ve shot through it a few times lately), string was OK, sight was tight, nothing seemed out of place. Till I looked at the front of the bow – there was a chunk of carbon fibre missing from the top limb tip! It had sheared clean off, just below the groove where the string sits, and had clearly been shot off with the last arrow.

Sadly these limbs are two years old, so well out of guarantee period, but it does seem sad that these “high end” limbs are only good for a couple of year’s worth of shooting.

I’ve just ordered myself a new pair of W&W N-Apecs to replace them with, so let’s hope they last a little longer!

Glad they went in such a way that no injury was caused, Andrew. It's always the way when something is going well. I'd be interested to know how the n-Apecs perform - want to up poundge next year.

Having been injured by a set of 18mth old Extreme Bf failing splitting my nose on both sides Im not surprise at all! I appealed to Samick directly and was told to get lost and they wouldn't reply to me after the first reply. So I say stuff the life expectancy of a pair of Samicks that totals 18 to 24 months it cost me over 500 pounds to replace them and 2 months so Id advise stay well clear of Samick limbs from 0-3 years old! On a new note though a new advisement is to be passed by the european union saying goods should be good/guaranteed for 24 months if they are sold in the EU. It may be law next month and goes back upto 48months. If so then Im gonna get together with all the Samick owners and going through the Euro Union get Samick sorted for producing a product that has failed soooo many times within 18 months. I m not very comfortable with being told in terrible English to go away when my limbs failed, the same limbs of so many archers that have failed in the same manner. And then the manufacturers changed from Mk 1 to Mk 2 changing the markings to make them identifiable!

Sadly I doubt Samick will be overly bothered initially as your guarantee is likely to remian with the retailer not the manufacturer as it is now under the current sales of goods act. Obviously excessive claims under waranty may influence a retailers decision to stock certain brands but thats going to take a while to filter back to the manufacturer.

Hi,
I know that it is becoming more difficult but avoid items made in China,
not just archery items either.

Huh? Where's the relevance there? Samicks are made in Korea.

I'll take my case up with the retailer that sold me these limbs (Aim4sport) and see what reaction I get. I'm not holding out much hope for anything though.

Something of a blanket statement, that.

Why?

Hi,
The last I heard was that a significant amount of Samick goods are now made in China and are of a lower standard to when made in Korea.

I'm perfectly capable of thinking, thanks. I was inviting you to explain and justify what appears to be a request to boycott all Chinese manufactured goods without any rationale; or evidence for said absent rationale.

I'm sitting here, looking at the limb in question, and it quite clearly states "Made in Korea" across the back. Is that one of the ones made in China then?

I love your sweeping generalisations, but like SoV, I'd really rather you told us WTF you're on about than telling people to "think".

Hi Ffish,
Quite clearly your limbs were not of those made in China, or are at least badged to indicate this. Lots of limbs now are however, and if posts on this forum are to be believed, often suffer from serious faults.

When it comes down to supporting my own country rather than some one else's my choice is a very easy one.
When it comes down to buying a foreign made item, as it now regrettably often does, I would rather support a country that does not have a reputation for poor quality and a record of blatant oppression and the denial of human rights of it's population.

That is my way of thinking and is the reason for my "blanket statement".

Ah - splendid - thanks for explaining that.

Simple prejudice then.

I thought as much; but it's always worth checking these things in order to avoid ill-founded judgements on my part.

Hi Sov,
I thought you were claiming to be able to think.
Perhaps you should try and live up to your claim.
