well its for instructing scouts if they draw back to far and the arrow is only attached by the nock and not on the rest, so do you just get them to slowy put the string back to its resting postion then go from there.

The key here IMHO is not to get in to this situation. Use longer arrows if necesary, teach them not to pinch the nock and stay with them so you can stop the draw before they get to the point where the arrow is off the rest.

have you done the leaders course , if not you scout group is acting slightly illegal..

if the arrow is that short my option would be snatch the arrow out of the bow.
the implications are somewhat lethal if this isnt done

Are the arrows falling off the side of the arrow rest, part way through the draw, or are the arrows being pulled so far back they are too short to stay on the rest?

Recurve FS Seed #42
Tilt (or cant) the bow until the arrow is clear of the riser then slowly let down

The requirement for instructing Scouts is that "The person in charge of archery should have reached the standards of the Community Sports Leaders' Award of the Grand National Archery Society and should instruct archery according to the standards of the Grand National Archery Society." (see POR rule 9.36). The Community Sports Leaders' course covers over-draw recovery, so I guess you haven't done the course? In which case, before you proceed, consider what else you might be missing.

I am a member of Gilwell, although retired now from everyday scouting. I noticed hat you are based in Northamton, at present by running an Archery activity you are going against POR which could invalidate your personal and Group insurance through Gilwell if any of the young people involved have an accident.
Please note:- I am not saying you cannot run an Archery activity, Just have the people from your district or county who are trained in this activity there to help. Long Buckby Archery Club are a scout based archery club on the outshirts of Northampton I feel sure that if you approach them they will give all the assistance needed to run a safe and exciting night.

Yours Nick
