I know what you mean.

It's not the weapon that is the problem - it is the butt head holding it.

Maybe a good opportunity to run more beginners’ courses and introducing archery to schools, so more people learn to respect the sport and equipment.

What do you think?

I like cats.

Crossbows can only be sold to over 18s, so they are slightly regulated. Still there are a lot of idiot over 18s around.

It's worrying to think that there are people walking about who think doing this sort of thing is funny...

Self evidently I like cats and that sort of thing makes be sick to my stomach. However I also like crossbows.
I dare say many more cats are injured through other means of cruelty or by cars.
The problem is anything to do with crossbows raises a media frenzy and has done ever since about the 12century.
As others have pointed out, its the idiots doing it that are the problem.
It's like the gun/knife/whatever problem, in reality more people are killed by idiots with cars and more are injured by beer glasses.

It really sickens me how people can be so cruel to poor defenceless animals - how would they like it?
Maybe thats whats needed bow licences why do you need a licence for a gun when a bow can easily kill as well.
I don't have a problem with cross bows as its another disclipline of archery but it just adds to the bad press relating to them - that will end up to licences or bans coming into force.

Maybe if cat owners didn't let their pets wander the streets crapping in other people's gardens and killing the local wildlife they wouldn't get shot!

Have to disagree it's still no justification to shoot a cat. Puts bows and archery in the limelight for all the wrong reasons!

Cats will do what is instinctive for them, the same as dogs, birds, crayfish or any other animal. That is no excuse for random cruelty.

I don't see the need to license bows, for the simple reason that any untutored person can pick up a gun or crossbow and kill someone at least at short range. Somebody picking up a bow for the first time is more likely to hurt themselves than anyone else.

Besides, banning or controlling things doesn't always work. Handguns were banned many years ago, resulting in sporting shooters giving up or moving abroad, yet what difference has it made to gun crime? Even if you could control any particular weapon, the thugs will use something else. A piece of wood with a nail in it - should we then license wood and nails?

Govt wont see any difference between a xbow and a bow ... they have a very narrow range of responses. Wasnt there a woman labour councillor in london who wanted an archery club to use arrows with rubber suckers on the end as she didnt see the need for sharp tips?

every month there's a story like this and every month we go round the loop on this one.

Yes its mindless yes its cruel ...but people will do this whatever... cross bows, air guns sticks, bags with rocks in that sort of thing....

shame is really I bet us brits are probably more upset about a cat getting shot with a crossbow than if it was a kid.

Oh and the cat's only doing whats natural thing is a poor excuse for everyone's cats coming into my garden.... have to say I have been tempted to put an Axis fmj through one.... wouldn't do it but am tempted.

oh and forgot to say feel the same about dogs too.... we have a lovely converted old railway line here ideal for a walk but I choose the main road cause fed up with tripping over dogs not on the lead and generally being hassled by them...
