I had originally set the bow up the same as it was with my Inno Power limbs that I shot previously, 9 3/8" bracing height and 5mm tiller. With the new limbs it seemed to me that the limbs weren't arriving at the end of the power stroke at the same time so I reduced the tiller to 3mm. Immediately the bow felt better and all of my sight marks came up by about 3mm on the track.
With the improved power stroke the arrows were shooting a trifle weak.
On Saturday I shortened the arrows by 3/8" - I had quite a game getting the inserts out of the arrows, but that's a different story - On Sunday, I tried them out and was amazed to find that my sight marks had to be adjusted upwards by another 2-3 increments. The bow although set the same was noticably quieter and the arrow flight improved.

Sorry to bore you with all that but what I want to know is how on earth does cutting such a small amount off the arrows ( I couldn't cut them shorter than that) make such a difference to the sight marks, and why is the bow quieter? I can make a guess that it's something to do with the nodes of the arrow but I don't really know the answer.

I'm hoping that someone can tell me.

With the great British summer coming to an end (yes we did have one) and the oncoming winter months I was wondering if anyone had a good way of waterproofing feather fletchings?
We were on a shoot on Sunday and the heavens opened and our nice 4” fletching ended up looking a little worse for ware.
So is there anything that can be done to waterproof them?
Have seen some stuff on the market but not sure what works or doesn’t?
I know someone suggested scotch guard, the stuff you waterproof suede shoes with.
Thanks

It needs a spare string. Could anyone help me with what string is recommended (eg Fast Flight - how many strands).
Also what is a good starting point for brace height on these ?

Thats the good news bit.

The bad news is that just as soon as I got it home for a play and strung it, it slipped and literally went skiing down 7 rough concrete garden steps putting a load of small scratches on the back and sides of the finish as it went. these show up a slightly white.

Now I think anyone would agree that's bad news:thumbsdow

My question is - is there anyone who can suggest how to remove or polish the scraches without damaging the finish any more.

Thanks v much

I tend to line up the string blur with the left side of the bow - others suggest central to the bow, others suggest they sight with the arrow between string and bow (don't ask me how - i couldn't do it either!).

Hello all, my firsy posting and I am at a pretty low ebb. My shooting has become worse and worse over the 2 years I would say. I have gone from 500+ on a Portsmouth to scraping 380. Shooting nights are more like banging my head against a brick wall and I go home quite down and depressed and feeling that I ought to 1, have a long break to reset my head, 2 sell up the not inconsiderable investment of archery kit( though not as costly as some). Any advice anyone has would be useful.

I shoot a Hoyt GM with W&W limbs, they are marked at 30lb but measure 40lb in the shop at my draw length. Arrows are Easton XX75 2114 31.5" long.
I use an alloy long rod

My particular fault seems to be drawing high (sight pin above target butt) getting to anchor point, lowering the sight and releasing far too early. I seem to be getting good groups ( for the lousy panic that I have ) just outside the white ring. I am finding it very hard to pull the bow down and get the sight onto the yellow. ( I do occasionally get one in though, although it often feels like fluke or error.) I am also feeling like I have a lot of muscular pain in my bow arm anterior deltiod ( front of shoulder.) I took up triathlon around the time of deterioration and wonder if the swimming muscles have counteracted something ( or am I looking for excuses?)

I've tried the bare butt thing, but when the yellow returns it's back.

I have two sight pins, one Beiter 12mm, one smaller cartel. I have tried the Beiter with different inserts and also without inserts.

I've tried a clicker, I can't seem to get back far enough (arrows too long?)

I've also tried drawing differently, holding the bow and sight pin on target and drawing whilst holding it on target with the result of early firing and not getting to anchor.

I can draw and hold on target with no arrow well enough.
I can draw and hold on something like the brick wall when inside for 10 seconds easily.

I know my head is the thing that is preventing me turning myself around and being better, though I just cannot seem to get it changed and ultimately, I am not enjoying something I once did.

Woefully yours,
I intend to use button on it so what I want to know is when I set up the button will I need to use the middle spring or the strongest spring when setting up. The reason I ask is that when setting up my target bow (68" and 38lb draw weight) I use the lightest spring and have the tension screwed back. Will the higher draw weight and heavier arrows need much more spring tension?

W&W Apec Primes (Medium) 38lb
452X string 16 strands made by club coach (64.5inch)
Easton 28 3/4" (might be slightly more but definately not 29") with 60gn points
W&W HMC Plus 30inch with two weights inc cap weight and flex ball

Now I've just looked at all of the strings I've got which are 64.5inch including the String Flex D75 and String Flex Supra 8125. All of them cannot achieve a bracing height in the range of 8.5 to 9.5 inches. The minimum with the custom made string seems to be dead on 9 inches.

The String Flex D75 seems to be around 8 and 7/8ths of an inch minimum achieved.

Would people suggest I try a longer string? It doesn't seem to affect anything at my level of shooting but I just wanted to tinker with bracing heights as it does seem a bit on the noisey side.
