how to adjust draw length

hey all,

Looking at a Bow that has a adjustable draw length. (Bowtech sentinel)

Its a Second hand bow, and draw length is set at lower than mine but is adjustable up to my length.

Now how would i go about adjusting the length. Is it a job for a shop-pro to do, or do-able yourself.

Also, how is this done? Just a brief explanation or a link to some reading would be good.

The sentinel is fitted with a rotating module system, really simple to use. You just undo 3 screws on the cam then rotate the mod to the specific draw length you want, then put the screws back. Then do the other cam in the same way, then last of all you need to adjust the draw stop which is one screw take out and stick in another hole on the cam...job done.. Takes no more than five mins

Warning!!!
If you adjust the draw length SHORTER make sure the draw stop is in the correct setting.
DO NOT DRAW THE BOW UNTIL THIS IS DONE!!!
You will over rotate the cams and the BOW WILL LOCK UP and you will be in deep do-do's.
I adjusted a customers bow by a large amount to make it a smaller draw length and nearly fell into the trap myself.

Dl

JNJ I have just got a sentinel. Rohen dont know what u got with teh bow but the user guide as came with the bow is as useful as a bull with an udder. On the DL section they only describe the cam module adj no mention of AS WELL adjust post.
JNJ go to the Bowtech website, in downloads you will find a page with 2 tables the top table refers to the module setting for each particular DL say 26.5" is no. 5 set the top and bottom module to this no. Then got to the bottom table , this gives you the hole into which the post must be screwed for your particular DL I am a leftie so my hole count may be opposite direction to yours (the holes are not numbered so where do u start from??). You will not that the post has a slotted hole this is to adjust the let-off. Adjust it so that it hits the cable early means that it it has only come down a small amount on the back curve of the force/draw curve therefore low let-off
A tip I set my arrow up dead sqare with string and riser and tuned stright away

[QUOTE=princejohn;319453] On the DL section they only describe the cam module adj no mention of AS WELL adjust post.

This is the quote from the 2009 manual under the heading (changing the draw length)
"When changing the draw length module, it is also always necessary to readjust the post setting"

Sentinel DL

Not quite- this statement is in the paragraph dealing with the 82nd Airborne which I believe has a post similar to that on the Constitution which I have. That system is completely different. I changed the crescent positions and found that the DL didnt alter much at all?? Factory is 29" at the end of the scale it went down to 28.5? or so. While I am not an expert I believe that altering the crescents to a particular setting adjusts the force draw curve to suit the reqd draw .The major DL change is done by placing the post in the appropriate hole.
The adj Draw Stop section is basically all referring to the the 82nd since it talks about minor changes only.
At no point does the book instruct people to refer to their website for details on crescent/post positions ? and even when aware and looking the up the website the holes are not numbered so when told to put it in say hole 6 where do we count from.
I love the bow but the instructions are the worse Ive come across and I have had 9 different compounds

I have 3 Bowtechs The Old Glory (2005),Guardian (2007) and the Alligiance (2007).
The Old Glory had FIXED draw length with no modules available as it was cam specific.
The Guardian has a draw stop built into the cam which works against the cables so no lock out problems.
The Allegiance has a post on the cam which hits the limb to act as a draw stop.
If you remove the stop post and draw the bow the cams will over rotate and they will lock up.
You will need a bowpress and a lot of care to put this right.
So if you change the draw length on these bows with rotating module and a stop post (in fact any model with a draw stop post) THE POST MUST BE IN THE CORRECT POSITION BEFORE DRAWING THE BOW.
